According to a report in prestigious Gulf News More than one million vehicles including cars in Dubai come on roads during the morning peak hour, which adds to jamming and increase in accidents.
Brigadier Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department, underscored his suggestion of applying a flexible working hour at government departments by dividing the work hours among government and semi-government departments in a way that not all employees have to leave for work at the same time.
He said more than one million have used cars in Dubai roads from 6.30 am to 8.30am daily. "Implementing the flexible working hours system will help in reducing congestion by 50 per cent for motorists coming from Sharjah," Brigadier Al Zafein said
He said the system has proved its success in many countries worldwide.
"I am sure that making the working hours flexible even by half an hour will make a difference in reducing congestion and accidents. There is currently one accident every three minutes on Dubai roads," Brigadier Al Zafein said.
Gulf News had earlier reported that government departments have been asked by the Dubai Executive Council to adopt flexible working hours to improve their performance.
The system would not only benefit government departments but would also dramatically alleviate traffic congestion on the roads, the Council said.
